Traditional butterfly symbolism combined with artistic styling is featured in this piece. Butterflies appear in many Native American legends, traditions and have even been depicted in some prehistoric pottery. The butterfly was also a prominent figure in the myth and ritual of the Hopi sometimes representing metamorphosis or ability to fly which Tommy Moore captured to form in this treasured buckle. Turquoise is considered by many to be the stone of happiness, health, and good fortune. Others believe it symbolizes the sky and water and may be associated with healing and protection. Some Native Americans relate sterling silver to intuition, beauty and spiritual healing. This buckle measures 3 3/4” by 2 1/2” that will accommodate a belt measuring up to 1 1/2” in width. The oval turquoise stone measures approximately 1 1/4” x 1”.
